Ivyland, PA – American Governor Company (AGC) has been awarded a contract with Olsson Industrial Electric to serve as a subcontractor on its Station Service Rehabilitation Project at the US Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) McNary Lock and Dam. The AGC subcontract covers the overhaul and modification of 35 Governor Oil Pumps including all governor oil pump repair/rewind work. This subcontract is in addition to the recent overhaul of six Woodward 50HP 480VAC pumps, which was contracted directly by USACE: those pumps will be installed by Olsson during the course of the McNary Station Service Rehabilitation.
For the (27) Woodward XX Herringbone governor oil pumps, AGC will be disassemble, clean, and inspect each pump, and a Solenoid-Operated Unloader Kit will be installed to improve pump operation. The XX pump and motor bearings will be replaced and new gaskets, seals, and O-rings will be installed and the gears will be inspected and dressed as needed. Meanwhile, the 100HP 4160VAC motor will be sent to AGC’s motor shop to be tested, modified and rewound to 480VAC. Before and after rewinding, the motor shop will thoroughly inspect and test each motor and submit a Status Report. After the rewound motor has been reunited with its pump, each XX pump will be tested on AGC’s new Full-Flow Pump Test Stand. The project also includes rewinding of eight (8) 100HP Allis-Chalmers (A-C) pump motors.
Station Service Rehabilitation at McNary will take place over several years, and will be conducted by Olsson Industrial Electric without any interruption to plant operations. AGC will work diligently and coordinate closely with Olsson throughout this project to ensure that the governor oil pumps are removed, repaired/rewound, and returned on a Just-In-Time basis in order to avoid delaying the progress of the project or causing an interruption in operations of the plant.
