Ivyland, PA – American Governor Company (AGC) will be continuing its support of the Garvins Falls Hydro Plant with Blade Controller upgrades. Located near Bow, New Hampshire, the Garvins Falls hydro plant has been in continuous operation since 1902! The plant was expanded in 1981 and (2) Tube Turbines and 3.5MW induction generators were added. These units are unique in that they do not contain Wicket Gates! Automated Head Gates operate first, and the Woodward Blade Positioner controls speed through blade angle. We will be upgrading the mechanical-hydraulic blade operation to full PLC control.
In 2012, Northeast Utilities and its operating companies Connecticut Light & Power, Public Service of New Hampshire, Western Massachusetts Electric and Yankee Gas merged with NSTAR Electric & Gas, in 2015 they rebranded to Eversource Energy.
AGC’s contract award includes retrofitting both Woodward blade controllers. Installation is scheduled for summer 2017.
